Anglian Section Notes May 2018

Ex-BSA man Michael Martin made a return visit to our March club night, when he spoke about the 1946 Cotswold Club Trial. In particular he told us that this was one of the last occasions in which sidecar wheel drive outfits had been allowed in competition prior to their being banned. Frank Dolman rode his 59th Pioneer Run (an outright record) on a bitingly cold 18 March, riding the same 1912 348cc Ladies Model Douglas he’s ridden every year (excluding run cancelations due to petrol crisis, foot and mouth disease or extreme freezing conditions) since his first Pioneer Run aged 17 years. For the last decade or more Frank has been accompanied by his son-in-law Ian Smeeton, aboard Frank’s 1913 BSA. Hopefully the May meeting will be a warm evening to allow the Section to meet outside “sur la terrace” for the first time this year.
