Anglian Section Notes January 2018

At our November club night our guest speaker was Rod Kirkby, who had spent his life working in the aeronautical industry, so he could speak with some authority. His subject was the Miles M52 aircraft which was designed in World War II, and was intended to fly at 1000 miles per hour and reach a height of 36000 feet in 90 seconds. To achieve this, the engineers at Miles came up with a radical design more reminiscent of a piece of weaponry. However, due to missed opportunities and Ministerial bad decisions the project was finally cancelled. On the 19th November 31 section members went by coach to David Silver’s Honda Museum, where over 150 examples of this manufacturer’s models were drooled over. Don’t forget, it’s “pie and chips” night at Fulbourn in January! Toodle-pip!
