Anglian Section Notes January 2019
At our final club night before Christmas we had a talk from Richard Pumphrey, who described how a schoolboy passion for collecting engine numbers eventually led to an involvement with the world of heritage railways, and the restoration of full-size steam locomotives. In Richard’s case, these were ex GWR Prairie class 5199 and 6880 “Betton Grange”. The timescales involved and finances needed were totally mind-blowing, and it really made us appreciate the advantages of taking on the restoration of something rather smaller, such as motorcycles! Our own Dave Boarer appeared before the TV cameras on Henry Cole’s “Motorbike Show” in December. The object of attention was Dave’s totally unrestored Ducati Cucciolo, which enabled the Italian company to get back on its feet, following WW2. It will be nice to have our very own showbiz “luvvie” in the Section!
