This year’s John Abraham Memorial Vintage & Veteran Run took place on a pleasant and dry Sunday in May. Organiser Stuart Bennett signed on 22 riders for the usual jog around Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, with a lunch stop at the “Woolpack” in Fornham St. Martin. Traditionally, the winner of John Abraham Memorial Trophy is chosen by a member of John Abraham’s family, but this year none were in attendance, so the trophy stayed unawarded. However, the Ian Webb Trophy (members’ choice) went to Mike Macdonald with his Black Ariel, and the Mike Stanley Trophy (furthest ridden to the event) was awarded to Derek Fox. Later in the same month, Mike Hobbs’s Houghton Mill Run was held, and the winner of the Anglian Cup, for the best foreign machine was Dave Desborough, with his Russian 350cc IZH.
