Anglian Section Notes August 2017

This year’s Fenland Gallop attracted 16 riders, on a pleasant dry Sunday in early June. Starting from the gastronomic delights of the Green Welly at Chatteris, the route wound its way up through the Fens via Outwell, stopping for lunch at Denver, before finishing back at Chatteris. Planning a variety of routes for this event is always difficult, due to the Fens not having the extensive network of roads to be found further south in our region. Historically, this is due to the area not having being drained until about 400 years ago, and so there just hasn’t been the time for many highways to have evolved. A mid-week run to Sunny Hunny took place on the hottest June day for 40 years. Upon arrival it was found that the intended lunch stop chippy had caught fire the night before, so Plan B was invoked and alternative nosheries were found.
